Humpback Whale
Watching Tour
Every year, hundreds of migrating humpback whales come to Cabo to enjoy the warm, calm waters. Mothers teach their curious calves to tail lob, fin slap, and breech. Male humpbacks compete for the attention of a few females, and whale song and dance fills the waters surrounding the peninsula as these titans of the sea escape the harsh winters up north. As these waters are home to ⅓ of the world’s marine mammals, it’s not uncommon to see dolphins, sea lions, and possibly even other whales! Last year we had guest appearances from blue whales, fin whales, orcas, and massive pods of dolphins- you just never know what you might see in these rich waters!

About Whale Defender
We originally developed the whale defender program right here in Cabo, to be able to give back to the whales that have been culturally important throughout history, are ecologically important to the survival of our planet, and simply because of the moments that they create everyday during the winter months for us and our visitors. In collaboration with some of Mexico’s most renowned marine mammal research and conservation centers, we developed a whale watching and conservation program like no other. The program utilized whale watching tours to help collect data for researchers while also working to monitor the local marine protected areas and the whale populations. Additionally 100% of the funds generated by the tours were donated to help protect the whales of Los Cabos and the Cabo San Lucas UNESCO Marine Protected Area.
The PADI Whale Defender course was inspired by the original Dive Ninja Whale Defenders citizen-science programs that ran as part of an ongoing project with Sea Shepherd and local marine mammal scientists in Cabo San Lucas and Baja California Sur. The original program aimed at turning whale watchers into informed and passionate whale defenders inspired to contribute to the protection and conservation of the whales that call the waters of Baja California home. The PADI course expands upon this concept to include the history, importance, threats, and conservation management of all whales on a global scale as well as how you can get involved in helping whales around the world. The course is open to all ages and both divers and non-divers alike. For scuba divers it counts towards your PADI Master Scuba Diver rating and is the perfect way to spend your pre flight surface interval or any day off from exploring the waters of Cabo. Best of all, when combined with a whale watching tour you can save $30! So you can not only learn about these incredible titans of the sea but experience them with your own eyes right here in Cabo San Lucas! Join us today!
