Our Baja Whale Watching Tours are Unforgettable
2019 Season Dates Now Available!
Every winter the Mexican Peninsula of Baja California plays host to an awe-inspiring migration of thousands of whales. Many species of these gentle giants make the long journey down to the Baja Peninsula to find new mates and give birth away from cold arctic waters up north. Baja is known for having the greatest concentration of migrating marine mammals in the entire world. By joining our Baja whale watching trips, you will have front row seats to the action!
During this special time of year we’re able to get up close and personal with these majestic creatures. New mothers nurse and care for their calves. Male humpbacks put on an amazing show as they search for new mates – breaching out of the water in a thunderous splash. Curious grey whales poke their heads out of the water only inches from the boat to say hello. And gigantic blue whales cruise the seas. Whether you’re a diver or non-diver we can plan the expedition of a lifetime for you to see these gentle giants in their natural habitat. The humpback whale watching season for Cabo San Lucas runs from mid December to mid April, the grey and blue whale seasons runs from mid January through late March. But for 1 month every year we put run a super special expedition to see the best of all them!
Below you’ll find a few of the possible stops we can make during your Gentle Giants expedition. Watch Humpback Whales in Cabo San Lucas
We like to start our gentle giant expeditions in Cabo San Lucas where we can spend a morning whale watching and the afternoon diving or snorkeling. In Cabo we can easily spot humpback whales which are notorious for putting on acrobatic shows, and we often see breaching males showing off for females and both male and female humpbacks sticking their flukes out of the water and lobtailing. And, it’s not uncommon for us to spot mothers teaching their newborns how to breach, dive, and swim Contact us today to start building your Baja whale watching expedition.
Befriend Grey Whales in Bahia Magadalena
In Bahia Magadalena we can get closer to grey whales in their natural habitat than anywhere else in the world. The grey whales we see here are incredibly curious and extremely friendly. They often come right up to boats and nudge them as if to say “hello friend!” and we frequently see them pop their heads out of the water to get a better look at us on the boat. Mothers are known to push their young up to the surface to help them get a better look at us. After whale watching, we can explore Magdalena itself, which is made up of tiny fishing villages full of charm and character.
Spot Giant Blue Whales in Loreto
The blue whale is the largest living animal on earth, and during their winter migration south we can see them while whale watching in Loreto. These gentle giants get up to 25 meters long and can weigh more than 200 tonnes! After we’ve spent some time spotting them, we can get some diving or snorkeling in, or if time allows we can spend an entire day whale watching and a second day diving or snorkeling , just tell us what you prefer! Check out some of the photos from past Baja whale watching expeditions in our photo gallery below.
Swim with Whale Sharks in La Paz
Want to swim with the largest fish in the world? In the bay of La Paz you have the unique opportunity to swim and snorkel with these majestic giants. Whale sharks can grow upwards of 12 meters (40+ feet) long and can weigh upwards of 21 tons (47,000 lbs.). Yet these docile giants move through the water with such grace and beauty, opening their large mouths to filter feed on tiny plankton. They’re known for gentle behavior; allowing snorkelers and divers to closely share the ocean with them. Sometimes if we are lucky we can find them standing completely vertical in the water suction feeding on plankton blooms.
