Dive the Midriff Islands & Bahia de los Angeles

Join us August 31 – September 7, 2019 as Team Ninja heads to the northern Sea of Cortez to explore the Midriff Islands! Imagine an area abundant with life, uninhabited islands with beautiful beaches dotting the landscape,  and no cities or towns anywhere in sight. An area that sees little to no boat traffic. We are talking about one of the most remote areas you can dive in this hemisphere.  Dive on untouched walls and reefs filled with marine life. Encounter large and small whale species, see pods of dolphins, snorkel with whale sharks, dive with playful sea lion colonies and jumping mobula rays.  Plus it boasts some of the best macro diving on this side of the world with nudibranchs, colorful blennys, dancing jawfish and sea horses.  Plus we’ll have the chance to hike and explore remote uninhabited islets, then take in the Milky Way and star filled sky after watching the beautiful Baja sunsets ignite the sky.

Rocio del Mar liveaboard

The Ship

For this expedition we have chartered the Rocio del Mar liveaboard. She is of the utmost sea worthiness and is approved by both the U.S. Coast Guard and the Mexican Coast Guard as well as being equipped with state of the art navigation systems, safety & rescue equipment and technologies. With a length of 33 meters the Rocio offers comfortable double cabins as well as a sundeck and galley with lots of space for relaxing between dives. All rooms are equipped with private bathrooms, showers, and toilets.  Her dive deck is large and well organized with individual stations for each diver and a spacious camera table. There is a dive platform for ease of boarding the inflatables with two outdoor showers. The Rocio del Mar is the perfect ship for exploring the Midriff Islands & Sea of Cortez.

Bahia De Los Angeles

On the last day of our expedition we will visit the famous Bahia de los Angeles. The ‘Bay of the Angels’ is gorgeous area where the neon blue sea contrasts against the desert mountains, located far away from the hustle and bustle of the northern tourist cities. This beautiful remote bay was named a Mexican Biosphere Reserve in 2007 to protect it’s unique ecology. One of these unique residents is the local population of whale sharks that call these waters home. We’ll spend some time snorkeling with these gentle giants as well as doing a couple dives in the bay before starting our journey back to Puerto Penasco.
